O.P. opening drives and folders
when ever i double click on my c:\ or D:\ drive, insted of openin it up. it brings up a search window.

i have found where the problem is, if i go to tools > folder options > file types > drive > advanced

if only has find, and not open. you can add your own operation to be carry out, so my question is how to i add open to the options ??? when i click "new.." is wants me to fill in two boxes "action" and "appiclation used to perform action". please can someone tell me what i need to enter !!

[edit]
found another problem. when i go to open a folder it opens, it opens in a new window but only for the first folder.

example: i double click on "program files", this then opens that folder but in a new window. however then if i open a folder within that new window taht it opens in that same folder.
it does this behavior all the time no matter what the folder is, so if i use the  "folders" side bar to get into program files and then double click on a folder forexample messsnger plus!, it will then open that up in a new window

does anyone know what could have caused this program, because i haven't changes owt on my computer recently !! and no one else uses my computer

For open, try using the following in Application:
explorer.exe %1

I think so too. The best option would be to reinstall windoze cause it resets all settings but not yr softwares. If problem persists format windows xp's drive (C: for single boot system And D: for multiple boot system) And then install win xp (Assumin u use xp and not 98 in which case do necessary adjustments)

right... it might replace dll's, and probably resets your registry too :-/ (dunno about the registry thing)

that is system-specific... :-/

good luck on an old computer ( 8-) )

edit: i've attached a registry file to specify the "open" command directly using the registry.

.zip File Attachment: folder.zip (370 bytes)
This file has been downloaded 398 time(s).

Hey Millenium_edition,
I don't think it resets the registry either cause all softwares work after the procedure.

When you re-install windows it formats everything. And if it wipes all your data, wheres the registary going to store stuff
