The last concert was for the money for the transport to get the supplies out, also to keep sending out supplies. It may not have eliminated it, but however it did arise awareness and help a lot of people.
This time is much different, the leaders (of at least the UK) have said that they want to abolish the debt, there was no meeting of the 7 richest countries (and Russia) trying to do anything. So because the concert is about a totally different reason to the first, and has a different goal, it can't be compared in the light of "getting results".
As they said they don't want your money, they want you to show the leaders of the G8 that you do want them to do something, and let them do the work. Since they are the only ones who do have the power to do the most work, which was not the goal of Live Aid (1985).
