O.P. Explorer crashes
I downloaded some video clips using torrents but when i play it, Windows Explorer crashes. i send the error report and it seems like i have a virus on my computer thats been cuasing this, but i think otherwise. i followed the advice that MS gave but i still get the problem. its happened with 2 different videos ive downloaded. however, other video files i have seem to be fine. whats going on :S

heres the link from MS
Link
although it might not work

[Edit] i also notice that if i leave the window displaying the file open, it will crash.
i also saw that XP SP2 has been having problems with Xvid files (thats the type of codec used) but i havnt had this problem before. i used GSpot to see if the file length was correct, and it is

RE: Explorer crashes
Try playing the videos with VLC Media Player.
I had problems some videos with other players (Windows Media Player, Winamp) and these players crashed when I opened the video.
VLC worked fine...

So try it ;)
YouTube closed-captions ripper (also allows you to download videos!)

yup, plays fine in VLC. what is the cause of the problem though cos i wanna convert the video and burn it to a dvd, but i wanna know a solution so i wont run into any problems on playback

[Update] i removed every single one of my codecs ( i had the k-lite mega codec pack installed) and the explorer doesnt crash! but i cant view the video

solved the problem :dodgy:
i had to remove all the codecs and update them. apparently the codecs had some bugs in them
