O.P. Force IE7 mode for IE8 users
Hey
Does Messenger Plus! mind adding the
code: <meta http-equiv="X-UA-Compatible" content="IE=7" />
tag to its pages? Most of the forum's pages are kind of messed up and screwed up

RE: Force IE7 mode for IE8 users
Don't use a buggy beta browser in the first place? What's the point in forcing IE7 mode if you could just not use IE8 yourself.

Not IE8 fault. Its Messenger Plus!'s website fault.
IE8 complies as you know to standards. If Msghelp has some quick IE fixes/tricks and is nonstandard, add this tag and while you fix the website to comply with standards, everyone can view the site as normal.

IE8 is compliant to IE8's standards. IE8 is a beta, use IE7...

The site works fine in other standards compliant browsers... In fact it appears fine in IE8 now that I think about it

RE: Force IE7 mode for IE8 users
If IE8 is standards-compliant, shouldn't the board look the same in IE8 as it does in other standards-compliant browsers like Firefox and Opera?
Microsoft is still working on it, so I'd rather wait and see if they fix the problems than add special tags to accommodate it.

It does not, some alignments are messed up.

Looks the same except avatars and other text in that cell or more left aligned. Not really the worst job they've ever made of a browser is it? I'm personally using Netscape 9 until I find it impossible to get my hands on it anymore

RE: Force IE7 mode for IE8 users
I installed IE8 Beta to do some tests and almost did what you suggested. But seeing how IE8 Beta 1 is unusable for normal day to day browsing, I'll just remind everybody that this beta is clearly for "web developers" only. There's a reason they added an IE7 Emulation button.
As being in the category of "web developer" here, I'll work on making it compatible with the final version of IE8 and I already asked Guido to take a look at it. It will probably just be a matter of removing IE-specific hacks. In the meantime, msgpluslive.net will look in IE8 like what 70% of the sites on the internet currently look in it: broken (that's a necessary step toward standards in the case of Microsoft though, that's probably a good move).
