A laptop cooling mat (one with electric powered fans) should help, here's one from amazon:
My-Link 3 Fans USB Laptop Cooler Pad Mat
You could also probably pick up one from your local computer shop.

Have you been keeping it in the sun, that caused my laptop to heat quicker recently.

Hi,
Insure the machine is kept out of direct sunlight and ensure the laptops feet are firmly on the table so there is enough space for the fans to circulate the air.

RE: Laptop is heating up VERY quickly
First check if there is any process causing constant CPU strain...
Check your Task Manager. If everything shows as 0% CPU most of the time (except for "System Idle Process" of course, that should be 99% or 100% most of the time) when you're doing nothing on the PC, then follow the above suggestions.
If not and there is something which is constantly putting strain on the CPU, find out what that process belongs to and take action accordingly (eg: kill that process, uninstall the app, etc) and see if it makes a difference.
Even a laptop cooling stand wouldn't fix such high temps if it is that bad after just 10 minutes like you say it is. Such a cooling mat or stand is just a workaround, something to disguise a big problem, it's not a fix. If your laptop heats up like that it means something is really not good inside (eg: blockage of airflow, loose heatsink, etc).

RE: Laptop is heating up VERY quickly
I have a similar question. According to Everest, the GPU temperature of my laptop is always around 57 to 60 C (and hard drive is around 39), and that's during very light use (browsing the internet or typing in OpenOffice). Is that normal for laptops?
It's a new laptop, so it can't be dusty, and it always gets used on the desk. It also doesn't feel that hot at all. The specific model name is an Estonian one (Ordi Enduro 5290BF), so it's probably not much help here, but apparently its "barebone" is Compal FL90/FL92.

RE: Laptop is heating up VERY quickly
Well... my laptop does not have heating issues, but as one of the vents is on the bottom side of the laptop and it only has like 1-2mm to get air, what I did was make out of some metal a stand that keeps the laptop a bit more separated from the surface, and the metal acts as a not very efficient heat sink.

RE: Laptop is heating up VERY quickly
Yeah my Acer has a cooling problem too (Aspire 5630).
It can overheat when Word, Powerpoint, Photoshop, Dreamweaver, and Firefox are all running for a while. I have to keep it slightly elevated with Lego blocks...and I recall once that didn't even help
Probably just because Acer sucks (As I have now learned)...
