O.P. Laptop - Built in Wifi device not recognised AT ALL. please help!
ive got this laptop here,
toshiba satellite a30... just used the discs supplied to format it and reinstall drivers, the only problem is that the BUILT IN wifi network device is not recognised by the system.
its not even in device manager with a ? mark!!! it just seems to not exist!
ive triewd installing the drivers seperately and it causes an error. now im really stuck
any help would be appreciated. thanks.
EDIT: just trying some really simple tests, it is connected inside as the power light flashes when the laptop is powered on. after that it just does nothing, and windows doesn't know its there!

If you can find the laptop's wireless card drivers, you could try installing them. Often, that lets Windows see the device.

RE: Laptop - Built in Wifi device not recognised AT ALL. please help!
Well, I Googled for wireless drivers toshiba satellite a30, which gave http://forums.computers.toshiba-europe.com/forums...spa?threadID=12134 as the second result for me. On that page I found this page, which is a page on a Toshiba site, so looks reliable. There, I entered the obvious stuff, e.g. Notebook, Satellite, A series. After that I chose A300 as model (had to enter something) and Wireless Lan Driver as driver type. Clicking one of the results redirected me to the Wireless Lan driver Portal, and here we are.
I see it doesn't work. Then I wouldn't know either, there's only one driver for the Atheros for each operating system, so it seems. Tried contacting Toshiba?

how do i restore the driver? i cant get to the device from device manager because its not showing up anywhere
tochjo's links installer says -
quote: the device may not be pressent or could have been ejected/unplugged from the system.
insert or reinsert now.
but its on board, so i cant remove it... hm!

Are there buttons on the laptop to turn the wireless on/off?
I know that when i reformatted my laptop my wireless didn't work until i'd put back on the application to control the buttons as well as having the wifi drivers installed
