There is an incompatibility with your graphic card (or its drivers), as you can read
here. You can try:
1. updating your video driver;
or
2. disabling Windows Live Messenger 2011 graphic acceleration, thanks to a registry trick. You can find the complete procedure
here (translate it with the widget on the left).
