There's no need to replace the battery unless you drain it completly every single day
If you use it for say - 4 hours - 5 days a week, then recharge it at night completly, it'll last like 2-3 years. But ya, go for the Ipod, it's much better over-all IMHO, and you'll be much happier with it.
