Custom emotion sounds are for the enjoyment of people, come on, msn wouldn't be fun without features like this, plus, like you said, you can disable the sounds, and there are more useful features in messenger plus!, i can assure you of this, its not getting less useful, its getting more useful and at the same time, more fun.
