increasing the pagefile may help....About the sounds, it happens to me too, but that's only because I run a program called bpmstudio which disables all windows sounds... (people don't like to hear the sound of someone coming online during a livegig), so check if your soundscheme is set to 'no sounds', if it is, then that may be your problem.
