Did you recognise the message that was sent, what did it say?
Has anything similar happened again, or before?

Not likely. If your account got "hacked" this wouldn't happen, you would just get signed out and the "hacker" would get signed in. If your computer was hacked, it is not likely that someone would do something stupid like this. If your computer was infected with a Trojan, you would either know of nothing, or you would get little annoying tricks played on you a lot often. Have you experienced any other anomalies?
None the less, it would seem logical to perform a virus scan of your computer. You can download a free virus scanner called
AVG Antivirus, by clicking here. Once installed scan all your system. However I would be surprised if anything showed up.
Unless it happens again, or you experience any other strange anomalies, I would put it down to a random bug.
