at our school we have an intranet, and it has a huge repositry of pdf files that are related to each subject. It got really big and hard to find files, (there were about 3GB worth of stuff) so they got a google search server and now we can use Google's awesome searching technology to browse all the pdf files.
Also we have a site called
blackboard which gives us information regarding our school like assignments and forums and stuff...
