if you want to buy books, a good VB one that i use is "Computing Projects In Visual Basic" by D. Christopher. my school gave that one to me and i have to say its good.
for C++, i recommend the Dev C++ compiler (
http://www.bloodshed.net/devcpp.html). and i got the book "C++ For Dummies"
