I just wanted to say I'm having the same problem.

Here are my versions:
Messenger Plus! Live 4.01.240
Windows Live Messenger 8.0.0812
Windows Vista Build 5600 (RC1)

I really want to have the tabbed messenger windows.  8-|

Oh, I don't have any other addons installed.

Ok, so I just played with it some more, and now it isn't working, even though I have tabs turned off!  :@
