I've not tried 6 yet, but 4 was sooo much better than HOK (5) if you excluded all the desyncs and lag and FE's you got when playing it over the network. (The fatal errors seem to have disappeared though).
Settlers 4 was actually another one of those addictive games, and each map/mission took at least an hour...
settlers 6 takes like 5 hours for 1 map.
