Thank you TRash . The contact list was easy. The default white background that you see with a fresh WLM, all I did was make that transparent. There you have your box.

The header (PSM, name etc) was a bit more complicated. I replaced the default blue header with a 1x1 pixel 100% transparent png. Then I added a new element to 'wrap' the header in a transparent box. I added a border, added some padding, and moved the icons into the header. Viola, I had a box up there too .
