Thanks! I formatted it successfully,
however that has lead me to another problem. I'm posting from my PSP because now that I no longer have a primary drive in use it says there is nothing to boot on startup. My D drive doesn't appear in the bios boot order so I can't boot windows from it. 
edit: oh nevermind, I'm meant to be installing XP on C:\ aren't I.
