No problem here and I'm using IE8b2 as well. This sounds like the program to open the logs with has been set to IE somehow...
How to fix:
- Find out where you store the Plus! chat log by going to Plus > Preferences > Conversations > Chat Logging
- Navigate to that folder
- Rightclick on one of the .ple files and choose
Open With
- Check what program it is set to open with, it should look like this:

- If not, change it to look as above by checking the box infront of "Always use the selected program..." then click the
Browse button and navigate to the Messenger Plus!Live folder, select Log Viewer.exe, click
Open
Now you've reset the file association and encrypted log files should open up in the native Log Viewer again.
