That's unfortunately because in the newest build the option has been removed, so you will need to obtain the slightly older one. Read Jonathan Kay's post about it
here.
You can download the 8089 build
here, which has the import/export option.
In regards to your main problem, I'm lost for ideas I'm afraid, I would have thought I'd work fine.
