Ok no it was not mentos lol, being the pyro nut I am I know how they made the bomb. They mixed  hydrogen peroxide and acetone together. When the two are mixed you get acetone peroxide which is quite explosive and unstable. They were going to use a disposable cameras flash spark to ignite the bomb.

This is correct information because I just seen it on the news. Also some other combos to make acetone peroxide would be hydrochloric acid and hydrogen peroxide.
