The point is getting some revenue while on the same time offering people something usefull/entertaining. It's 1000 times better than other stuff. I don't see anything wrong with it.
It's 'just' an extra icon/menu option, which you can even disable it if you don't like it.
PS: what's up with all the "downloaded/updated" spam?
