depends on how clean the environment is the PC is in. (one of my PC's needs a very big cleaning every month because it is in a very dusty and smokey room and the case is always open)

well last time I was fitting my graphics card i noticed a lot of dust around the cpu fan and case fan but I didn't have any compressed air then.

also on neowin i was adviced to clean it because I have been having alot of problems like (programs not responding  ,slow downs etc.)

Yeah, I agree. What I do is put one hand near the PC and blow the air at my hand to see how much force there is.

My PC is about the same age, and I've cleaned it multiple times... there was lots of dust in there. I guess it depends on how dusty your house is and how much you use the PC (how much the fans are running).

pretty sure it is. i know with mine if its upside down or shaken while spraying it expells something cold, liquidy, and flamable (heh.)

thanks wdz and cookie i'm to scared to do it (millions of things could go wrong). I might just get the local computer shop to do it.

well as long as you follow cookies advice you will be fine, also if you pc has a metal case touching that should be enough to get rid of any static energy, just make sure your not doing it whilst dancing in a nylon jogging suit in a thunder storm

Indeed.... Don't be scared though. It is easy enough if you just practice a bit (on some other stuff), and like WDZ said, start from a distance and holding your hand near the PC and test how much force there is in the airflow. Not much can go wrong if you just use common sense

thanks for the info. I will open it up tomorrow and try and clean it  see the thing i'm scared of  is booting up and getting a blank screen or sumin.

Erm, a vacuum/compressed air combo is the best way to go. Just run the vacuum near the PC a few times (a shop vac is good for this as their very powerful) to get rid of all the loose dust. Then get the compressed air and attach the little straw thing for precision blowing and blow away all the dust you see. Then get the vacuum again and suck away all the dust you loosened up.
