why is paint a security flaw?

also, what are these initials, i'm afraid i'm not sure what they stand for: GTK+, GD,

they're all easilly obtainable off limewire, or my mate jack (he gets me loads of programs of file sharing thingies). or infact fireworks is available off the macromedia website and the keygens are easy to find on limewire.
in my eyes it's only moraly wrong if you can afford them, but refuse to pay... but that's a different argument.

i use photoshop but paint is fine for many things... in fact paint can pretty much generate any picture (not sure about semi-transparencies though) after all any picture is really just a bunch of pixels on your screen.. but we all want to save time so we get some processes automated for us... photoshop may be overkill for many simple tasks but it does speed up some lengthy tasks.

anyways.. it's not really the program that matters it's what you do with it that counts... you can achieve far more by actually learning to use a program to it's full extent than by just getting a "better program" and not bothering to learn the functions it provides.

hmm, i get the feeling i've posted this before.. anyways i was bored and thought i should contribute.

GTK+ is a multi-platform toolkit for creating graphical user interfaces. It is part of the GNU Project (was launched to develop a complete UNIX like operating system which is free software - GNU/Linux systems).

GD is an open source code library for creating images (PNG, JPEG and GIF images, among other formats).

GRX is a 2D graphics library, but I'm pretty sure that msg_plus_freak meant 'graphics'. :P

Um, I use Photoshop CS2, Bryce 5 (occassionally), Macromedia Fireworks, Macromedia Flash, The Gimp (occassionally) and Paint (occassionally). All of these are very good programs, so long as you take the time to learn them. It's all well and good saying Paint is terrible, but it can actually be incredibly good for simple tasks. I find most programs terrible for the simple cropping of images, takes to long to load, but Paint loads quickly and easily, and it takes up less time to do anything.
It really depends what your main purpose is for using a graphics program for... If it's simple things, I suggest Paint, or maybe The Gimp for such things. If you want to go into more detailed and harder work, use Photoshop or Fireworks, but there is no guarantee that you will be able to make amazing things as soon as you have installed it. It's not the program, it's the way the user uses and interprets the program.

Fireworks for almost all my projects (very nice effects, fast, usefull when starting a graphic design from scratch and alpha channel editing), Photoshop CS2 as secondary (only when i need some effects fireworks doesnt have) and Paint for pixel editing (and for editing SNES/NES/GB game sprites for animatios :P and RPG Maker)
