Have you tried re-installing the drivers for your wireless router on Windows XP?

Sounds to me like you're having problem with your proxy settings, amazingly they can mess a hell of a lot up.

What is the brand and model of your router?

Have you tried re-setting up your router for windows xp?

Okay, go to Internet Explorer or Firefox and type in the address bar: 192.168.2.1. Leave the password box empty and press okay. Choose PPPoA (Routing mode, for multiple pcs) as your connection type. Next put in all of the personal info that's required. Press "automatic by isp" for the dns settings.

Now press "Home" on the webpage, not on Internet Explorer/Mozilla Firefox. Press "connect to internet" and it should work.

(info from belkin.com)
