Almost sounds like your router may be on the frits. Your routers DHCP should be handling internal IP's. Setting the computers with a Static could cause problems. What kind of router do you have?

Check? Properties on the connection you are using (Control Panel > Network Connections > Right click your connection > Properties > TCP/IP settings)
