I have a wireless-B broadband router BEFW1154 and my provider is Rogers.  How do I get a new IP address from my router i have DHCP release and Renew buttons.

RE: Getting a new IP address
Do you want a new external IP (from Rogers) or an internal IP provided by your router's DHCP?
Finish the problem

you release your current IP, and then renew it. If you end up getting the same IP back, unplug your modem for an hour or so, and hope you get a new IP

You open up cmd (Windows key + R and type "cmd" without quotes and press enter). Then you type:

View information:
quote:
ipconfig

View different commands available:
quote:
ipconfig -?

Renew:
quote:
ipconfig /renew

Release ip:
quote:
ipconfig /release <NAME of CONNECTION>

If you leave the name of the connection blank, it'll probably release all connections.

You'll have to log into your router's control panel, and find out how to release and renew from there. If you run the command prompt, all that will do is get a new 192.168.x.x address from the router, not from Rogers

Unless of course your computer is connected to the router via USB. Which happens occasionally.

For me, It works just to simply reboot the router (simplest way to reset connection)
