RE: Disclaimer - What's it all about?
It's never a bad thing to ask permission when copying something.
Anyway, when your text doesn't refer to anything which is owned by the site you copied from it isn't bad to just copy (and modify it) for your own use. With things they own i mean sites/pages/brandnames/trademarks/products and stuff like that, you don't want their stuff to appear in your disclaimer anyway .
