RE: Quick Icons unavailable
Ahh, that registry key didn't exist originally on my system after installing.  I added the key, closed messenger and msgplus, restarted msgplus and messenger, still nothing.

Same here. Running Windows XP and latest version of Msgplus. Registry settings were already correctly set (I presume the registry key is in fact "UseQuickIcons".

Just tested this, Quick Panel is only available in MSN Messenger 6.x and above. I think the reason for this is because Windows Messenger versions do not allow you to have custom emoticons, so you dont need a window that will popup giving you the options of using them.

Can we confirm that we're talking about the same thing here? I might be embarrassing myself otherwise.

The "quick icons" I'm referring to are those that appear once a "(" is typed (without quotes).

If this is not what's being referred to, please let me know so I don't waste anyone else's time.

However, if it is, then I may disagree with the statement above. Quick icons (as I currently see it) worked with version 2.xx of Msgplus, when using Windows Messenger.

Matty, please come back to me if needs be. Anyone else with any hints?

RE: Quick Icons unavailable
I beta tested Plus!3 and it never was enabled on Windows Messenger Versions, and yes I am talking about the Icon Panel that pops up when you press (.

The icons that are visible in that Windows are ment for MSN Messenger not Windows Messenger. I have spoken to patchou about a lot of the features that dont work and his reply was... (Not quote for quote) Most of my users use MSN Messenger. Why spend extra time making all my features backwards compatible. (Now when I spoke with Patchou it was awihle back so I don't remember exactly what he said, but it was along those lines.)

For space reasons, the Quick Icons panel is now available on MSN Messenger 6.0 and above only. I had to do this sacrifice to save some kilobytes in the setup package.

I'm not satisfied with this answer. I'm stuck to Windows Messenger, since I'm using Outlook Express and SIP Communications Service. I'm very used to the Quick Icon Panel, so I don't have to remember the exact characters for a specific emoticon.

I would really like to see it enabled in Windows Messenger again. It's never a good idea to drawback features users are used to.

Just my $.02.

Regards,
Thömmi

If thats the way you feel, then use Messenger Plus! 2.5
Why would Patchou keep a feature for Windows Messenger when most of the users use MSN Messenger 6?

I've got to agree with you here.  I have to use Windows Messenger because of Exchange Messaging.  I can understand leaving it out of the installer to save space since most people do use MSN Messenger, but at least post it as a seperate package that those of us still using Windows Messenger can enable the feature that we were used to.

Same here.  I think there is more of a WM 5.0 base than people realise, with the release of Microsoft's Live Communications Server many corporates are begining a rollout of the SIP client - which can only be found in WM 5.0.

PatchOU, please give us the option to download a package that supports all the features under WM 5.0
