Are you using plugins of plus? If you do, disable them in the plugins section of the preferences of plus and restart messenger.

Are you using a modified version of messenger (ie: with games or polygamy patch, with skins, ....)? If you do, install the original version and try again.

Are you using programs like SmileyCentral or MyCustomNix or similar programs related to messeger? They're known to cause problems to plus. Uninstall them and try again.

Does the problem still happen if you unisntall plus?

Does the problem also happen if you use one of the original themes of windows xp?

Hmm...
What is your current AntiVirus Product and firewall product (if applicable), and Spam Protection, and are you using Microsoft Office?  If so, what version?

(Sorry if this sounds far fetched, i've noticed similar problems with these products installed!  Just wanna eliminate everything)

Hmm...non of these products should be doing anything, I guess i'd just wait and see if Patchou reads this thread, cause he'll know better than me.

Have you tried fully uninstalling and reinstalling Plus?
Uninstall Plus and remove all your preferences when asked to (you can back them up and try restoring them later). Remove Plus directory (usually C:\Program files\Messenger Plus! 3). Now go to Start > Run, type "regedit" and click OK.
Browse to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Patchou and press Del to delete it. Now browse to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Patchou and do the same. Reinstall Plus and check what happens.
