Nope...

If one is signed in offline, then the protocol will return this as "not signed in". So the clients can't differ between "signed in offline" or "being not signed in at all", it's all the same for your contacts...

No, sorry, when someone's status is set to "appear offline" there is no way to determine if they are actually online or not, without finding a bug in the MSN Protocol that could show this...However given the Protocol's integrity one will probably never be exposed...

There are packages sent, but due to the way MSN works, these are simply only sent to the MSN Server...not to the other person. IP2IP is only initiated in a Webcam CONVERSATION, Audio CONVERSATION and File Transfer...However good theory, and if a suitable bug was ever found in the MSN server I'm sure we could read these packets, but that would be illegal, wrong and a breach of privacy...

If you knew the IP address of the targets computer, you could see if the ports messinger uses were open I.E. 1322, 1323, 1324, 1325 on my comp. But the catch is they didnt show up wen i port scanned my comp so u'll have to be imagaionative

Yeah, but if they're really offline that could be anyone you're looking at :p...

If you monitored your internet connection very carefully while trying to connect to that port with telnet, in theory it could work, however in any case its useless, you can't be sure who it is...

It was only an idea of the top of my head anyway

? Those are certainly not the standard ports used by Messenger....

No, what Anubis meant is that when that person isn't online (PC not turned on) the IP can point to someone else if it is dynamic (and most IP's are)...

You can NOT find it out... period.
