Is it just me, or is IE with SP2 better than Firefox in blocking pop-ups?

Tell me if you don't get any pop-up when you open this site using Firefox without any additional extension.

IE's popup blocker blocks all popups. Even ones that appear when you click a link.

Firefox's only blocks unrequested popups which are ones that occur in certain JavaScript events (which you can see in about:config under "dom.popup_allowed_events", mine shows "change click dblclick mouseup reset submit").
The previous sentence is false. The following sentence is true.

Understood
But, what setting should I change then if I want to eliminate mess.be's pop-up or similar other sites' pop-ups?

Edit: btw, I have the same value for "dom.popup_allowed_events"

It isnt, afik they are both writen in C or C++.

One of the reasons firefox is better at preventing spyware is the fact that it isnt an intergrated part of windows. Also it doesnt allow you to install direct from a site, you have to download an installer.

What "change click dblclick mouseup reset submit" means is if you click on a submit button, double click etc. it will allow a popup.

So.. I think it's fine as it is.

Your IT teacher doesn't know what he's talking about. IE and Firefox are written in C++, where spyware can be written in VB (to make it easy to attach to IE) or C++ (to hook into the system at a lower level e.g. keyloggers).

Hmm yeah good point. I didn't think about what those events actually were but I see now they're the ones to allow, not block :P
