RE: password protected folders
I don't know how to password protect them, but maybe compressing and adding a password to the zip file could help you?

RE: password protected folders
With windows XP can already encrypt your folders (the ones in "document & settings") if you log in with an account (thus not guest account IIRC). To do this right-click the folder, go to the properties and  search for the security tab...

Those folders will be encrypted based upon your account name, so for everybody else who doesn't know the password for your account, the folders will be inaccessable...

Another option, with similar results, is (if you have Windows XP);
- Password Protect your Windows account (Start > Control Panel > User Accounts)
- Right Click on the folder you want to make private and click properties
- Click on the sharing tab
- Check Make this Folder Private
- Click OK

The results of this are that only your windows account, which needs a password to log into, will be able to access the folder. Similar outcome may be an option without needing to download stuff.

You can only do that on Windows XP Professional though, the option I gave will work on Home and Pro. If you have professional, I'd advise you did both, for optimal security.

No that's not what I mean. If your account is password protected you can't get in, you need to set one;

What you do (in Windows XP) is the following;

- Start > Control Panel
- User Accounts > Click on Your account > Create a password
- Then Follow the instructions and when done click on the button Create Password
