im thinking about upgrading to windows 2000 pro or ME ... i need to know if i should still be able to use my video card on either one of those, im asking b/c after i upgraded my other computer to Xp the card was taking up to much power so i couldnt use it.  the computer has 233mhz and all the other specs are under requirements.  also which OS should i get 2000 or ME

That will run XP for sure, but if you don't want to be risky than 2000.

You're pretty much open to choice with 200~mb ram and 160~gb and that video card. Pentium II might mean 2000 and XP will run a little on the slow end but you should be fine (Y)

RE: upgrading
Windows 2000:
code:
133 MHz or higher Pentium-compatible CPU.

64 megabytes (MB) of RAM recommended minimum; more memory generally improves responsiveness [4 gigabytes (GB) RAM maximum.]

2 GB hard disk with a minimum of 650 MB of free space. (Additional free hard disk space is required if you are installing over a network.)

that'll run fine

xp specs:
code:
PC with 300 megahertz or higher processor clock speed recommended; 233 MHz minimum required (single or dual processor system);* Intel Pentium/Celeron family, or AMD K6/Athlon/Duron family, or compatible processor recommended
•

128 megabytes (MB) of RAM or higher recommended (64 MB minimum supported; may limit performance and some features)
•

1.5 gigabytes (GB) of available hard disk space

On the slow end but *should* run

It doesn't matter how much power the card takes... It should adjust automatically.

Besides, different operating systems dont need different power

233mhz? XP will run. I can also do 1000 pushups - it just takes a loooong time.

Win ME is basically an upgrade of 98. It is supposed to be more stable but from what I've heard the gains are minimal.
Windows 2000 is an NT system, meaning it'll be more like XP. I don't know how either of these operating systems run though.
Why not have a stab at linux?
