O.P. Grin  Turing, who hates it like I do?
Turing must be the worlds worst programming language. There teaching it to us in school and it's basicly useless. Maybe I don't like it because I'm used to Visual Basic, and C++ (the normal languages).

It's a useful language and is easy to pick up. It's necessarily a building block for computer engineers. It's easy, textual and does what you need it to. And since it is so easy, it will help you learn other languages as the teacher is supposed to teach you the constructs of programming and how input/output, data storage, data types, variable types etc. work and how to use them. You may find it useless, but for those in your class that don't program, it's really a godsend.

I do like Turing, but don't like the fact that we're being taught something no one uses. I may be contradicting myself, but oh well.

Edit: The topic of this thread is the exact opposite of the poll...

If you haven't taken computer engineering, then you will have not heard of Turing. As far as I know it's a Canadian-only thing too.

I live in Finland, we had a short chapter about Turing and the Turing machine in Computer Sience. It wasn't that hard, but I don't remember much anymore.

I've not covered Turing the language in my CS course, but I have been taught about Turing the person's role in the development of the computer. In fact, he wrote the first program for the first computer, the SSEM, later the Manchester Mk1.

Interesting fact:
There's a statue of Turing in Manchester, between the University of Manchester Sackville St building, and the Gay Village on Canal Street.

I think the computing course I'm hoping to do when I'm in 6th Form has a bit on Turing, however it isn't much, as has been said it's just to teach you the kind of idea of programming and how computers "think". The rest of the course is learning and applying VB, C and I think C++

Well you can kind of boost up the work we're doing on this DiDA course with a bit of VB, if you can think of a useful way to apply it in access, which there are many ways to, however none I know of actually are worth doing for this course. But as people say GCSE's are very easy in some subjects, when compared with stuff you'll learn later on. Just be glad the course is so easy, because at the end of the day the IT GCSE is just that a GCSE, if you find it easy consider it a blessing, because I know people who find stuff like the "web site" you have to make hard.

However If I remember correctly there may be a bit of CSS in our future if we get into the 2nd GCSE. Which I know isn't that uber, but its the 1337st the course goes into...
