exactly what I would say...

Although the Toshiba seems better, it is slower as far as I can tell (although it has a slightly faster HDD)...

Thus, I also would buy the HP with an extra 512MB of mem...

Err. You do realise you've fallen into the megahertz myth and are comparing a P4 2.8ghz with a Pentium M 2.0ghz?

You do know the Pentium M is probably faster than the P4 overall, right?

[edit]The Pentium M processor line is designed for low power consumption and maximum performance. If you're going to be games, the Pentium M processor would beat the P4 hands down - look at benchmarks of them at the moment.

Maybe, but the hp has hyper thread and this is relivently newer technonlgy ( i think) it means you can run more programs/games without using all the power!
I still think hp with extra 512mb of ram

P.S Ram is relitivly cheap you can get elixer 512mb for £25 aria, yo'll need to chech what type it is though

EDIT: It has a better screen as well its high definition this means smaller pixels for pinpoint accuracy and clearness
Plus it has a faster bus speed!

Hyperthreading isn't new anymore and it's certainly not newer than Pentium M/Centrino technology!

It doesn't mean you can run more programs and grames without using more power. Its for multithreaded applications.

Do some research before you reply to something like this.

Oh, and you cant get laptop RAM for £25, especially for 512mb so do some more research on that too.

Not really, at least not to my sources (which can of course be wrong)

True, a pentium M is relativly faster than a P4. But according to some graphs I've seen the P4 2.8Ghz is still a tick faster than a Pentium M 2.0Ghz (not much).

But we indeed didn't mention that the Pentium M is far more power sufficient and all (so your battery will last longer).

(this said, this was according to the stuff I've looked up)

The price was my main argument to go with HP though... If the price would be the same, I'd go for the Toshiba.

http://support.intel.com/support/processors/mobile/pm/sb/CS-007967.htm

From that chart - you'll see the P4-M's have a 1mb cache (well, this one would) whilst this same Centrino has the 2mb cache. The other features such as dedicated stack manager, EIS technology make the CPU outperform the P4-M quite easily.

Results page of an interesting review:

I don't have the time to find the time to find it right now but somewhere on the Intel site is their cross comparison chart of the Pentium M vs P4 line with comparisons of the speed. Basically it states a 1.7ghz Centrino/Pentium M is the equiv. of a P4 2.6ghz.

For business/office applications, the Pentium-M is unbeatable, clearly outperforming the fastest mobile Pentium 4 at 2.40GHz. When dealing with games and media encoding applications, the Pentium 4 will be faster, but by no means will it be able to offer the battery life of a Pentium-M based system.

Yes, I do agree when this is compared with equivalent Pentium 4 processors. But I'm not so sure that the Pentium M 2.0Ghz is so much faster than the P4 2.8Ghz...

But... I'm currently looking thru Intel's site...

EDIT: crap, Intel's site is so "non-searchable" so to speak. I can't find anything related to any comparisson charts...

anyways, if it turns out the Toshiba is a tick faster, I'd still buy the HP because of the price...Hence I'm curious in how much faster it is, with 3d games
