no, the message says to place that line in youir hosts file so that your computer won't try to contact that site.

You wound't find it because you have to put it there as you clearly can read in the quote.

If it isn't there you're not safe. If you put it there you may be safe from this particular trojan but nobody garantuees anything, especially for other stuff.

But this also shows that you don't know what you're dealing with or whatever (though, no pun intended). In other words: do not use any beta at all, and certainly not a pre-beta as WLM 8; there is absolutely no reason why you should use it. Let the people who know what they're doing and are official testers handle it.

In fact, with the little knowledge you have (again, no pun intedend) you will never be safe at all as using any beta (and certainly pre-beta's) requires at least the knowledge of what you're doing and knowledge to fix errors or identify other stuff which can happen...

You will only harm yourself (aka: your computer).

MS also gives an explicit warning to those who officialy are invited to test this pre-beta. In short they warn that this software isn't even beta and will/can contain errors which may corrupt or damage your data. eg: it wouldn't be surprising if there was a bug which leads to corrupting/deleting all your chat logs, etc... And this goes even for normal beta's too, so...

My sister was having trouble signing in with 8.0 so I went back to 7.5.  I hope to god I'm safe.  I'm doing a virus scan now.

Well...i do not really like using leaked Alpha version (which is what the leaked versions of WLM are at the moment), because of how early they are in development. But when it comes to hacked, modified application, i deffinately disagree using them. For the sheer reason that the modifications may be unsafe. And this just proves that there is "method to my madness"

So yes, i recommend you don't use any version of Windows Live Messenger unless you are an OFFICIAL Beta tester.

i agree with animal. Everyone should just wait to either msn posts the beta on there site like they did with 7.0 or wait to they have released the full version on there site. Dont download it from anywhere else.

1. you will probably get virues.
2. they might nto work.
3. you might get spy-ware and adware.
