The reason Ubuntu is going to start charging is, as said earlier in this thread, people order CDs and waste them. Many people I know used it once. Many PC users stick to what they know and seeing as PCs mainly get shipped with Windows or people buy Macs, Linux distros often go unheard of and are treated as "different". It's becoming more apparrant that Linux is slowly starting to look more and more like Windows using a "taskbar-esque" bar at the bottom, a "K" menu rather than a start menu. While Linux is coming up with with new features, MS are taking note of the good ones and putting them into Windows (things such as the multiple desktops PowerToy that is available).  No matter how much any OS improves, Windows is always going to win, meaning no OS is giong to be completly free AND compete seriously against MS

Thousands is a bit much, but people who order a few hundred disks don't really make a difference; CDs are cheap, postage is expensive. It's be just because the sponsor doesn't want to pay for it, I don't know how much good it was doing them, but I'd never heaerd of Canonical before, and never dealth with them since, so their sponsorship was useless on me. Also, nobody made them ship lots of CDs, they could have just rejected large orders.

Great Idea under, Just 1 problem Telstra didn't Roll out Cable where i am In Melbourne , im in the South eastern suburbs of Melbourne, i think they stopped it at Upwey which is about 25min from me roughly, many ADSL providers that have connectioons out near me ( im on the Emerald Exchange ) only have ADSL1 atm,, Belgrave has ADSL2 enabled which is just the next suburb but to far to be my local exchange which sucks otherwise i woulda had ADSL2 by now,
