.avi is just a file type. There are many different codecs using for them. Try 3ivx on google.

Uninstall it and reimport them. If it still happens then it's not the app.

Download it, install it. It just works with your media player, you don't have to do anything.

That is a codec but the .avi might not have been encoded with that. Try using GSpot to find out the codec used on the file.
