O.P. Event viewer for Messenger Plus inconsistent with MSN notifications
I am using:

Windows Live Messenger Version 2008 (Build 8.5.1302.1018)

Messenger Plus! Live Version 4.50.0.312 - Released 12/15/2007

There was a notification that popped up in my messenger saying one of my contacts had just logged in. I checked my contact list and it said that contact was offline. I clicked on the Messenger Plus option "Display Event Viewer" and it showed the contact signed in, but it did not say the contact signed out. I waited for about an hour and then there was another notification saying that the same contact had just logged in. I again checked my list of contacts and the contact was still offline. I went to "Display Event Viewer" again and this time it showed that when that 2nd notification pop up window came up the contact had just logged off.

This is the first time I experience this issue with one of my contacts. Any help would be appreciated, thanks.

hmmm... issues like this have been reported before. But the main consensus is that this is actually a bug in Messenger (which exists for quite some time now) and thus something for Microsoft to fix.

Plus! simply collects and shows the information that Messenger recieves from its servers. If that information is not correct, or if Messenger itself doesn't show it properly, Plus! can't do something about it.

If I downgrade to another MSN messenger, will that fix the problem?

I think the toast that informs you when someone signs out only appears when you have a chat with the person who signed out. Also , there are some people who sign in and immediately put themselves offline for their own reasons.

No, your MSN/WLM client will receive exactly the same messages from the server. (Other than version dependant messages blah blah blah lol)

But I only see it when I am in a conversation with a friend and this friend signs out.

indeed, but that's not being discussed here.

I think it's default behaviour. I run a fresh install atm and it's already there.

Because you probably have set it to only show for contacts with an open conversation. The toast nicely shows for all contacts if you set it so. (Plus! > Preferences > Customize! > Event Notifications > ...)

But indeed, I dunno what this has todo with the topic.....
