The auto-update feature has two windows. The first one pops-up when an update is detected and, if the user clicks “Download” in this window, the second one is displayed when the download is complete and the update is ready to be installed. Here are the steps to trigger the auto-update window.

Start regedit to open the Windows registry.

    Go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Patchou\Messenger Plus!\.

Edit the “SoftwareBuild” value and set it to 1 (write down the current value to set it back after the test is complete).

Simply wait and hope for Messenger Plus! to check for an update.
does this still work in Plus Live (adding "Live" in the registry path)?
The registry value is there, so I assume it does work. However, the old .doc said that you could check for updates through the About window, which no longer is true.

I did some quick searching, but I didn't find any ways to force it.

Triggering the auto-update should be as easy as that, but you don't have to wait after changing the registry setting, you can speed up this phase by sending /checkupdates to any contact (in a chat).
I am afraid this won't work as I tested it myself and Patchou stated it before:

Also the Interface Tester program of Messenger Plus! Live given by Patchou in this thread may be useful for these windows like [Window.PlusNotLoaded],[Window.UpdateAvaliable] and [Window.UpdateDownload]. You can consider giving a link to this program in the guidelines.

There was a translation guideline by Patchou? What do you know. (A)

A shame that these forums are so haunted by flaming that users posting something new feel they must attach a disclaimer.

Anyway, comments to the introduction:

No, I didn't search before
posting. Don't bother asking.

I've seen threads were people are being asked why they bothered to do things. It's really annoying, but it's not something that's in my control. As with most websites, disclaimers work pretty well. :p

Don't worry. There are probably some more typos. Though, I'm not responsible for them in a direct matter. The doc is a lightly edited version of the original (written by patch). Everything that wasn't wrong in concern of the new guidelines weren't edited. But I'll go fix those tiny errors.

Also, I invite you to check the temporary wiki for the .doc. Feel free to edit anything you wish.

I thought I'd just note that I've updated the guidelines at Google Docs.

You can find it @ http://docs.google.com/Doc?id=dddwp5vv_15gpf2rhwt

Comments / feedback is appreciated as I haven't done anything in a while, improvements are always nice.

I didn't know I had to mention that Greek is spoken in Cyprus too. Your guidelines have extra tips that are very useful. Thanks Nitro! :)

RE: Unofficial update of the translation guidelines for Messenger Plus!
Hey Thor,

some updates on the guidelines:

quote:
[Structure of a language file]
...
Notepad can be fine too but some languages are not displayed properly in it.
...
Incorrect, Notepad can display all languages just fine afaik, including RTL and 'complex' languages.

quote:
[Structure of a language file]
...
In those cases, you must add a " before the space, as shown in the example underbelow.
    * UnicodeRadio=" Unicode encoding
...
You must enclose the the entire value (only a starting quote is not according to the INI rules):
UnicodeRadio=" Unicode encoding"

There should be a statement somewhere (in the section [Translation Rules] maybe) that it is not allowed to add urls or emailaddresses in the about box.
If translators want to add a link to their own website or add a contact email, it must be done in a comment line (for example at the beginning of the file).
This rule has been stated and confirmed a few times in the past by Patchou.

The whole [Translation file delivery] should be revised as it contains stuff which is wrong and some important pointers are missing.
See the Wiki for my pruposal (made 'anonymously' as I didn't had an account there yet).
One question with this section though, where was it ever stated that they must include a screenshot of the about box when they sent a new file to Patchou? I never saw such a statement. Is this something Patchou requested to be added?

I have a lot more, but smaller, corrections and pruposals. It would be handy if I can do them on the wiki pages, but the post in this forum, the Google Doc and the wiki are not syncronized, they all contain different versions.
