O.P. WLM 9.0 - Windows Live Call - 0x80070643
Hey,

When installing Windows Live Messenger 9, I get this error:
quote:
Windows Live Call (0x80070643)
I've tried looking up the error code but haven't found anything related.

Sometimes the installer (wlsetup-web.exe) stops at 50% when attempting to install Windows Live Call and says it has failed to install, other times it will 100% complete, then says it failed to install.

I've tried completely removing the existing WLM 8.5 and also any other programs related to Windows Live and then installing WLM 9.0, but continues to not install.

Windows XP SP3

Read this, I think it can help:

Error Code 0x80070643: Cannot install Windows Live Messenger 9 or other Windows Live Applications

Or try to go to Start>Run, type 'cmd' and then enter each of these one at a time at the command prompt (hit 'enter' after each one if needed):

regsvr32 wuapi.dll
regsvr32 wuaueng.dll
regsvr32 atl.dll
regsvr32 wucltui.dll
regsvr32 wups.dll

P.s. Did you try the full installer http://g.live.com/1rebeta3/en/wlsetup-all.exe ?

You will need to open cmd with admin rights for rgsvr32 ;)

C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\IdentityCRL
and Take Ownership of this folder.
Unable to do that as I'm on XP. Tried looking for the equivalent C:\Program Files\Microsoft\IdentityCRL but it doesn't exist.

Uninstalling Plus! didn't help.

All the regsvr32 commands succeeded apart from the first one:

---------------------------
RegSvr32
---------------------------
DllRegisterServer in wuapi.dll failed.
Return code was: 0x80070005
---------------------------
OK

I'll give it a try later.

First of all, I think you should try installing the full package in Safe Mode.

Read this! ;)

But before, try this command, too (it's important because it's related to SP3 installation - and you have SP3 on your machine):

regsvr32 wups2.dll

These commands are solutions for the same error in WLInstaller -Wave 2: this error seems to be related to Windows Update. Does it work fine on your pc?

OK.  Hope this thread works... please advise if i should have gone to another...

my issue is that i don't want Live Call installed/active.

On any webpage i go to, all phone numbers are hyper-linked to run Livecall.  this is useless from a personal (can't update attwireless phone book) to professional (customer phone numbers are hyper-linked).

does anyone know how to remove this, for lack of a better word, functionality?

thanks!

You have to disable an helper-object for IE, Click-To-Call-BHO, under Tools > Manage Add-ons.... Here's a screenshot that can help (it's IE7, but it should be similar in IE6):

Thanks -LiNk-, worked :D.

I done the command. Then followed instructions to register the wuapi.dll file (by downloading Reset_subinacl.ZIP [had to Google it, as link wasn't working] and running reset.cmd).

Then I thought I'd try the wlsetup-web.exe installer (not the full package) and it installed fine. :)

However, I'm now receiving this when I sign in.. :(

---------------------------
Windows Live Messenger Beta
---------------------------
Signing in to Windows Live Messenger Beta failed because the service is temporarily unavailable. Please try again later.

Error code: 8000ffff

---------------------------
Retry   Cancel   Help
---------------------------

That means that one of the components has failed to install (d'oh!).

But I think the solution is here from JK.

So I'll try that later, as well as downloading the full package.

Good :)
If you need individual installers of any component to resolve the problem, go to this entry in JK's Live Space! ;)
