if the majority of programs are too loud, then turn your main volume control down (and it will stay down), then when you're using programs that need to be a bit louder, just turn them up individually.

You should set things so that they're right for the majority of things, so that you only need to adjust in the minority of cases.

Just turn your overall volume down and then most things will be normal volume......and when you're using one of the programs that needs to be a bit louder, go and manually turn that one up
I will do this if I find no other way. It just means that when I use things that aren't very loud, and have the volume turned right up, the other programs will be very loud.

Hmm, I'm fairly sure that individual volume settings save between restarts for me.
This is what I thought too, in fact I think it used to happen, but now it doesn't, which is why I am so bothered by this... I might try a forum dedicated to Win Vista to see if I can find out more.

Thought about this... Thanks, but I would much rather an easier solution.

Thanks

Just turn up those individual programs when you use them...if you're not using them all the time it won't be a problem, and even if you can't find a way to get it to save the settings, just generally have the computer set to a lower volume and then turn up only the individual programs that need it a bit louder, when you use them

Yes, but I'm saying that you don't have to run everything else at 100%!!!!

When you're running these other programs, just turn THOSE ONES up to 100% and then everything else will still be at a normal level, and WLM won't be loud.

I don't know how many ways I can say it, this is what i've said in every post in this thread and still you don't understand :P

except you can't set a program's individual volume slider higher than the system volume...

Yes you can......if the system volume is set to 60% (as mine is), so that most programs function at a normal sound level, then when he uses one of these 'quieter' ones, he goes to the mixer, slides up that individual slider and then only that program is operating louder

but yes, i agree with your second statement :P

no, when he slides up the individual slider it will just turn up the system volume with it, and leave the other programs at a reduced volume, which isn't what he wants because individual program volumes are not remembered after the app closes

O.P. RE: Messenger volume?
OK, Sorry, djdannyp. There seems to have been a misunderstanding.

This is exactly what I have been doing, but for some reason WLM  sets itself to 100% whenever I reboot, or close and re-open it.

Therefore when I start up the computer or whatever, it is once again very loud, and I must manually go through and set its volume down again.

I was wondering if there was a way to get WLM to remember its volume setting, so I wouldn't have to do this.

Other programs seem to work fine, eg Media player keeps itself at 10% no matter what I do, and my flight sim sits at 20% each time I open it.

WLM seems to be the only program that doesn't "remember" its volume setting, and I think this has only happened since I updated to 2009...

Any ideas?
Thanks
Nick

Thanks, ShawnZ. This is another reason this wont work.
I only just saw your post after posting my last one sorry.
