the air in sydney is chewy, don't move to sydney from the country or you'll suffocate

Amsterdam is on the 18th place :)

I love this city, but I'd like to live in New York, London, Sydney, Paris or Rome too.

London has to be my first choice, it has everything you could possibly want from a city, but a bit more sun would help. It has entertainment & culture but the traffic problems need sorting out
we want to hear about your holidays. Go to www.in2town.co.uk lifestyle magazine and leave a holiday review, you could win a prize

Melbourne FTW, came runner up for best city to live in a couple of time IIRC. I reckon Melbourne should replace Sydney on that list...
Melbourne was the most boring place I visited in Australia, I liked the "New Part" but wasn't too keen on the "old part" although the gaol Is pretty cool, I have a photo of me in Ned Kelly's armour somewhere :P

The only reason you thought melbourne is boring is because you probs followed all those gay as tourists books that say, ooh pay 100 dollars to go look at this garden and shit like that. Melbourne is a great place and is very fun as night. Plenty of casino and heaps and heaps of clubs and pubs. Did you go to eureka tower? did you go for a boat ride onto the bay? did you go to lunar park? did you go to crown casino? did you go to the royal theater, did you go to the imax? plenty of shit to do.

There is no right or wrong answer to this question actually. It's best to live where everything works out for you and all.

(I bet someone already said this but I didn't feel like reading the whole thread. 2 pages. C'mon!)

RE: the best city to live
What's up with all these industrial and urbanised cities? Great skylines? Best cities to live in? Quality of life? Sure... if you like to look at concrete all the time...

Give me the "country side", some nature. Of course not in the middle of a forest living in a shack or whatever, but a place where you don't live in a concrete fort all the time, no matter how nice and modern the buildings are like all the cities listed so far... I'm happy to travel 30 minutes to go to a 'city' to shop or whatever. I don't need to live next door to a supermarket or Starbucks...

Waking up in the morning by the sound of (real :p) birds and other nature sounds can't be beaten by anything.
