O.P. 3G
I was thinking to get Sony Ericsson K800 tomorrow.
I did search but I still couldn't understand how the 3G technology will be useful for me.
Can someone explain to me the use of 3G other than faster downloads and makes you looks cool because you have 3G on your phone?
Can I use VoIP if I have a 3G phone?
If any of you has 3G subscription, can you tell me how much more you pay for the subscription compared to the regular service?
I read news about T-Mobile USA just won 850MHz bandwidth in a wireless auction spectrum.
And all news I read seem to imply that the 3G will using GSM 850, but K800 doesn't have that band. Can someone clarify this?

RE: 3G
3G allows your phone to send and recieve data with a speed much faster than the old mobiles. Here in Finland, the most popular features of 3G phones are video calls (you can see the one you are speaking to and she/he can see can see you with no lag) and watching TV (most operators here have a service that allows you to watch a handful of channels on the phone). However, for the features related to calling ohters (video calls, for example) the ohter person also needs a 3G phone.

RE: 3G
3G doesn't work over GSM. It will work on a different protocol, for example UTMS or W-CDMA. However, most 3G phones also have GSM radios, and can work on GSM as well.
The faster internet is because the 3G protocols have been designed for it. To get internet over GSM, it would be through GPRS (not as fast) or over CSD (slow).
You can't use the 3G to use VOIP from your phone. Somebody may have made a VOIP application program for K800, using Bluetooth or perhaps even 3G fast internet.
There's no real use than the faster downloads, video calling, and having a phone that has 3G printed on it, is bulkier, and runs shorter amounts of time between charges.

RE: 3G
Also, if you don't want the 3G features, you can buy the Sony Ericsson K790 which has the same features as the K800, excluding the 3G features.
Also, you dont need to have a 3G subscription to use the mobile phone

That's what I was looking for.
But to my surprise the dealers didn't even know that model :(
Good news: I prolly get K800 for $165 ( or less!) or maybe N73 with $95 more.
Bad news: I can't decide which one I should pick
