I Just Checked, it is indeed Set to "Run In Windows 2000 Compatibility Mode".

In Terms of Taking the mode off, in my tests the Messenger Plus DLL was Deactivated and Returned to the normal mode.

Therefore, features such as video-conferencing will be unavailable in Messenger. I recommend if you want to use this, you stick to Windows Messenger 4.7.

Huh? Are you saying some of MSN Messenger 5's features will be unavailable with MP2 installed under Windows XP?!?:O:O:O Patchou, please tell me he is bluffing! =\

yes he's right, when you turn the compatibility mode off, mp2 doesn't work with msn5.  And what's the problem with that?! Only the 16-color icon...

The 16-bit system tray icon isn't the only setback. Features such as Windows XP's Remote Assistance, and I also mentioned video-conferencing, which is disabled in Messenger when it is not running under XP. So for now, your solution would be to stick to Windows Messenger, at least until Microsoft releases the MSN Messenger 5.0 API documentation, if they ever do.

The 'Actions' menu of MSN 5 without MP2:

The 'Actions' menu of MSN 5 with Win 2000 compatability mode:

So it would appear that Video Conversation does vanish when 2000 compatability mode is activated.
However there is little that has changed in MSN 5 so there is no reason for not using Windows Messenger instead.

You cant have the best of both worlds in a sence, if you want MP2 for MSN Messenger XP, then you have to deal with MSN Messenger thinking its in 2000. Therefore, not having those features.

Wow wow, lemme get this stright... If I am running WinXP, and MSN5, I'm still able to use MP2. To use MP2, I have to set the compatibility mode for MSN to Win2K. By setting the compatibility mode to Win2K, I lose the features of asking/being asked for Remote Assistance and Video Conversations. Is that all?
