I have three as well; the hardware router firewall as first line of defence, Windows firewall on all systems for boot time protection (the only reason its worth running) and software firewalls on all machines to prevent cross infection (essential when you have non-internet-savy family members).

If you try and install it on an older computer, well lets just say not too much will run normal after that.
I've installed SP2 in my old Pentium II 266 MHz, 192 Mb RAM; and it goes as fast as before installing it.

You don’t need SP2 to run the Windows firewall any way, the firewall comes with Windows XP. All’s you need to do is enable it.
Wrong. The firewall comes only with the SP2 of WinXP. If not, tell me: how do you enable/configure it in, for example, Windows XP SP1?

3!?!!! now don't you think thats going a little over board. Does anything get throught your internet? :S I've been useing my routers firewall for years now and have had no problem. Useing 3 does not make it better. In some cases it makes it worse. How does your computer run Scone?

Do not depend on the Windows Firewall.  It is a 'stateful' firewall that only protects from *incoming, unsolicited* connections.
what does 'stateful' mean ?!?!

That is not correct. The Windows Firewall has always been a part of Windows XP but disabled by default and called the Internet Connection firewall.  You'll find plenty of information here:
