are the comics copyrighted?

if they are, you could ask for permission to do it and have like a disclaimer at the bottom sayin they are copyrighted etc...

erm. im not sure if stating that its copyrighted would be ok. it might be because your showing other people not to copy it without permission but you don't have the permission yourself *-)....

well thats how i see it anyway....

EDIT: this may be of some help? its about sueing copyright infringers..im looking to see if it tells you if you are infringing atm.. http://www.copyrightservice.co.uk/copyright/p05_copyright_infringement

Yeah just keep doing it... a comic strip site compared to site's that leak software is hardly comparision. As you can't get copyright just put something like "every effort has been made to contact the owners' - however no contact was made. If these belong to you, please email me" etc

Good luck with the site (Y)

This is on a site i find whilst looking for the copyright owner:

I am not sure how long this will be online either, but here is a site with scans of EVERY Calvin and Hobbes comic from 1985 - 1995.

Let's face it - the Sunday Comics have been garbage since Bill Watterson went into retirement and took our favorite six year old with him. Relive the good ol' days!

The site was posted on Fark late last night, so it may be running a little slow. Hope Bill Watterson doesn't read Fark or this site will be shut down faster than Spaceman Spiff zipping through space in his spaceship.

I ALSO FOUND THIS:

FAQ OF COPYING HOBBES

its very handy....its got like an FAQ and the questions are things like 'i want to use a hobbes comic on my website how do i...' etc id say check it out(Y)

This is the main question i saw:

Q.

I want to use a cartoon on my web site. Who do I contact?

A.

There are two ways to request the right to reproduce a cartoon on your web site:

   1. Visit the AMU Reprints archive, search for the images you wish to use, and submit your request using our easy online request process.
      -- or --
   2. Visit our web site, http://www.amuniversal.com/ups/permissions. Or you can go directly to our Reprint Permission Request Form (non-classroom use) to request reprint permissions.

For general inquiries, please contact:

surly its just a fansite, i wouldnt worry, if it was a proper site listed in searchengines  giving out every single comic there is then they would be botherd, but its not so its ok i think
