Just want to share an idea that crossed my mind.
The moods in msn messenger change according to the emoticons you use.
Would it be nice to see something like this for standard forums? I think it's a quite unique idea to let a bot check the smileys you use in posts, and adapt your mood-rate likewise, and then change your avatar picture which is located at the same server.
Or maybe just an extension to mybboard for example, but I don't have much experience with that.

Anyway, it would probably waste way too much traffic

I think I would have the technical abilities to make such thing. But I'm not planning to make it very soon, just wanted to check whether people would like it

Don't worry: I'm not trying to put you down. I'm just making people aware of the problems.

What about msn messages with multiple smileys? Just count all the smileys individual.

Example:
= mood -2
= mood -1
= mood +1
= mood +2

You could also have multiple categories, so you can log the times specific emoticons will be used. i.e. when someone uses a lot, his avatar could be changed into a shy version. Same for  .

Or like a love-category, counting

i do think its a creative and unique idea, however i wouldn't want my picture changing, so definintely optional this should have been posted in Forum and Website bit btw

I like the initial idea though, it would be original for a forum. But the way it works on MSN Messenger isn't a good way to let it work on a forum....

It could be done much easier also, just an easy accessible setting somewhere (top bar?) where you can select your mood. And the mood would show somewhere in the box where your avatar is (not replacing the avatar).

Yeh I like CookieRevised idea.

Maybe there could be 3 options.

1st Option - Disabled [regular avatar]
2nd Option - automatic mood change
3rd Option - (as said above) choose your mood from dropdown menu.
